Teatro Aurelia

The Teatro Aurelia ballet: two centuries of the Italian school, a corps de ballet of eighty dancers, and a repertoire that runs from Giselle to today's new works.

Scènova is the official representative of the Teatro Aurelia Ballet for its tours of France and the Benelux.

The Teatro Aurelia's corps de ballet was born with the theatre itself, at the very start of the nineteenth century, when the dance academy attached to the house began training its own performers rather than bringing them in. That continuity – the school inside the theatre, the theatre fed by the school – remains the company's signature.

The Italian school settled here: a high line, crisp batterie, a way of carrying the upper body you recognise from the first variation. Over the last century the company has alternated the great classics with commissions, inviting the choreographers who mattered at the moment they mattered.

Today

Under Fabio Renzetti's direction, the troupe numbers eighty permanent dancers and seven principal dancers. The repertoire holds its balance: the titles audiences expect, and two new works a season entrusted to choreographers under forty.

On tour, the company travels with its own sets and its own orchestra. It is a heavy constraint and a deliberate choice: what is seen in Milan is seen, identically, everywhere else.
