Carmina Burana
Our first complete production: choreography, libretto, sets and costumes all created in-house around Carl Orff's cantata.
Carmina Burana is a Scènova production. We own it and hold the performance rights.
Choreography, staging, libretto, sets and costumes were all conceived by our artistic team. The first tour, in 2017, brought corps de ballet, chorus and orchestra together on stage – a heavy apparatus, and still the heart of the show.
Carl Orff's cantata is written to be heard at full force: O Fortuna opens and closes the evening, and everything in between belongs to the turning of the wheel. The choreography tells no story; it follows that motion.
What travels
The production tours in full: sets, costumes, chorus and orchestra. We do not play this piece in a reduced version, and the cities that host it have a stage and a pit sized accordingly.
